    Enlisted as a private on June 22, 1863, at the age of 24. He enlisted in Company B, 52nd Infantry Regiment, North Carolina.He transfered at City Point, Virginia. He was POW on June 13, 1864 at Bottom's Bridge, VA and confined on June 24, 1864 at Point Lookout, MD. He took the oath of Allegiance on June 27, 1864 at Point Lookout, MD. He then enlisted in Company K, 1st Infantry Regiment RA on June 27, 1864.
