Obituary: Akron (Ohio) Beacon-Journal, Sunday, April 25, 1982. "Dr. Adrian Davis, 81, retired orthopedist." Dr. Adrian E. Davis, who practiced medicine in Akron for 52 years, died Friday at Akron City Hospital after a long illness. He was 81. Dr. Davis was born in Wellston, Ohio, and moved to Akron in 1920. He was a University of Akron graduate and received his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed work as an intern and resident physician at Akron City Hospital in 1929. Dr. Davis practiced general medicine four years and then specialized in orthopedic medicine until his retirement in 1971. He was on the staffs of Akron City, St. Thomas and Akron Children's hospitals. In 1941, he and two other Akron doctors were honored at the American Medical Association convention in Cleveland for the research on osteomyelitis, a crippling bone and tissue disease. During World War II, Dr. Davis served aboard the Navy hospital ship Relief for 18 months in the Pacific. He was discharged as a commander in 1945, returned to Akron and reopened his office. In 1950, he was named to the board of the Akron Public Health Commission. He was a member of the Summit County and Ohio State Medical Societies and the American College of Surgeons. He was a 32nd degree Mason Adoniram Lodge No. 517, the Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland and a member and past-president of the Portage Country Club. Dr. Davis leaves his wife, Pauline; daughter, Susan Briggs; brother, Dr. Roger Davis, of Akron, and three grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Fairlawn West United Church of Christ, 2095 Market Street. Memorials may be made to the church or the American Heart Fund. References
