Notes for ABRAHAM SNAPP: Virginia Land Records for Abraham Snapp: Owned 200 acres that were named in his father's will as "the other half of moiety of said tract containing 200 acres being that part John Vance formerly lived on." Had 100 acres surveyed 3 March 1783 in Shenadoah County on Little North Mountain adjoining Henry Keller, Jacob Keller. Patent granted 23 October 1799. Source: "Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, Vol. III. An Abraham Snapp sold 200 acres to Henry Weaver in 1788 (Frederick Co. Deed Book "21", p. 885)

Abraham Snapp moved with his wife and children from Shenandoah Co, Va to Washington Co., TN between 1800 & 1803. Records in Washington County, TN show that in March 1803, Abraham purchased 350 acres on the Nolachucky River from his brother, Jacob Snapp. "Jacob Snapp, Shanandoah Co., VA & Barbara to Abraham Snapp 358 acres on N. side of Nolichuckey $4000 adjoining Brown, John Severe. (William Moore conveyed to Jacob Snapp) Witness: John Mauck, Lawrence Snapp, Jun'r, ___ Snapp, John Tipton" (Washington Co., TN Deed Book "9", p. 213).

"ABRAHAM SNAPP FAMILY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY"

The ABRAHAM SNAPP family was another Washington County clan that came from the Shenandoah Valley in an early day.

The Great grandfather was LAWRENCE SNAPP, the father of ABRAHAM SNAPP who married MARY FOGLESONG and located in Washington County, about 1801. His son ABRAHAM SNAPP was born in 1797. ...ABRAHAM SNAPP and MARY FOGLESONG had six sons and eight daughters:

Abraham Snapp is found in the 1816 tax list of Capt. Waddell Co. Wa. Co, 430.75 acres with no slaves.

There were fourteen children also listed by name in the Will of Abraham Snapp which was dated July 8, 1833; Laurence, Sarah, Peter, Christina, Catherine, George, Elizabeth, Joseph, Abraham, Margaret, Jacob, Mary Ann, Flora Ann and Bethsheba.

                       Abraham Snapp's Will 

In the name of God, Amen. I Abraham Snapp Sen'r. of the County of Washington and State of Tennessee, being of advanced age but of sound mind and memory, for which I thank God, and being desirous of disposing of my worldly property that I have been bless with in manner and form following - 1st Item I bequeath to my son Lawrence Snapp one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death, as I have given him his portion in property in my life time. 2nd Item I bequeath of my daughter Sarah McGhee one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death, as I have given her portion in property in my life time. 3rd Item I bequeath to my son, Peter Snapp one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death as I have given his portion in property in my life time. 4th Item I bequeath to my daughter Christina Ghrale one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death, as I have given her portion in property in my life time. 5th Item I bequeath to my daughter Catherine Boyles one dollar, to be paid by my executor one year after my death as I have given her portion in property in my life time. 6th Item I bequeath to my son George Snapp one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death as I have given his portion in my life time. 7th Item I bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth McCune who went to Indiana State and married fifty dollars to be paid one year after my death by my executor. 8th Item I bequeath to my son Joseph Snapp one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death as I have given his portion in my life time. 9th Item I bequeath to my son Abraham Snapp the tract of land whereon I now live which I deeded to my son Jacob & from him to my son Abraham, with all its appurtenances to him and his heirs forever. I also bequeath to my son Abraham all my farming utensils, household and kitchen furniture of every description and one cow beast as it is all the stock that I own at this time, as my son Abraham has paid upwards of three hundred dollars for me of debts and as he has given his obligation to me for my maintenance during my natural life, which obligation is dated sixth of September 1830 pp 10th Item I bequeath to my daughter Margaret Richards one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death as I have given her portion in my life time. 11th Item I bequeath to my son Jacob one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death, as I have given him his portion in my life time. 12th Item I bequeath to my daughter Mary Ann Prather one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death, as I have given her portion in my life time. 13th Item I bequeath to my daughter Florianne Henly one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death, as I have given her portion in my life time. 14th Item I bequeath to my grand daughter Mary Jean Doak one dollar to be paid by my executor one year after my death as I have given to my daughter Bethsheba her portion in life time and she is now dead --- and lastly appoint and ordain my son Abraham Snapp my executor of this last will and testament, revoking all former wills and testament ___ I have hereunto set my hand and seal eighth of July Eighteen hundred and thirty three.
