Snively, Peru, Miami, IN James Mays purchased land from the state of Indiana, land patent granted 1 August 1845 to E1/2 NE1/4 Sect 15 Twp 26 Range 3E 80 acres, recorded 27 October 1849 in Cass County, IN. The land was Wabash and Erie Canal land that Mays purchased at Peru, Miami, IN. Military Service: Private in Co. D 151st IN Vol. Infantry, enlisted 24 Jan 1865, discharged 19 Sep 1865. The 151st Regiment, Indiana Infantry was organized at Indianapolis, IN and mustered in March 3, 1865. Left state for Nashville, TN on March 6. Then moved to Tullahoma, TN on March 14 and had duty there till June 14. Then moved to Nashville, TN on June 14 and had garrison duty there till September. Mustered out 19 September 1865. Occupation: Iron, coal and wood business, 5th & Broadway, Peru, IN, 1880: bookkeeper Residence: After the Civil War lived in Peru, Miami, IN 1868-1890, then in Indianapolis, Marion, IN 1891 till his death. 1880: 407 West Seventh, Peru, Miami, IN; 1897: 503 Talbott Ave., Indianapolis, IN; 1900 census: rented at 2518 Talbot Ave., Indianapolis, IN; 1910 census: lived with Archer C. Shirley, Sr. in Franklin Twp., IN, widower; 1913: 72 Schiller St., Indianapolis, IN; 1915-1919: 3719 Kenwood Ave., Indianapolis, Marion, IN Burial: Crown Hill Cemetery References
