On the personal property tax duplicate of Jackson Twp., Montgomery County, OH for 1827, 1828, 1829, and 1830. 1834 moved to Cass County, IN; 1 August 1837 Whitley County, IN land patents: SW qtr of the NW qtr of section 20, Twp. 30N, Range 9E, 40 acres (lived in Cass County, IN at the time). 1839 to Washington Twp., Whitley, IN. 1840: First election upon the founding of Washington Twp., Whitley, IN was in the home of Abraham Lesley. For a number of years various elections were held there. Among those present at the first election were: John Oliver, Abraham Lesley, Enos Miles, William Lesley. Occupation: Cut logs for first house in Washington Twp., Whitley, IN. Was one of the principal men who cut new roads for the early settlers. Census: 1850 Whitley County, IN with Enos and Lucinda Miles, farmer, age 65, born in PA. 1854 was on a list to work on the roads. |
