    "Abner4 Avered (Avery) (Josiah,3 Israel,2 Richard1), born Apr. 7, 1721, at Guilford, Conn.; died _____, 1804, at Wallingford, Conn.; …

    His name and his children's names were written indifferently Avered and Avery. In 1747, he received a gift from his father, Josiah Avered, of 45 acres in Wallingford. In 1771, as 'Avery' he sold land, and in 1777, as 'Avery' he bought land. In 1793, he sold to Abner Avered, Jr., 'the mansion house where I now live and half of other buildings etc.,' all, in Wallingford; this deed was signed Abner Avered, and his oldest son, as a witness, signed Amos Averit.

    His will, dated Oct. 27, 1797, and proved May 31, 1804, mentions sons Edmond, Amos, Abner and Ambrose Avery, and daughter Eunice Whitney, wife of Enos Whitney."
