A review of Worldconnect.rootsweb.com indicates that she is likely the daughter of Timothy Chase and Leah Robbins, and that she was first married to a first cousin, Solomon Chase, and that they moved from Templeton, MA (where they were married) to Townshend after the Nov 1784 birth of their last child. This research seems to be based on a book entitled Seven Generations of the Descendants of Aquila and Thomas Chase, p. 157, which also indicates that Abigail married an Unknown Barber of Springfield, VT, and that Abigail died in Springfield, VT. This book does not indicate the death date for her first husband, although others say he died in Townshend in 1811. (This should be confirmed with the Townshend records.)

However, we know from Townshend records that Abigail Chase married Thomas Barber *in Townshend* and in 1791. If this is the same Abigail Chase, and if Solomon did not die until 1811, then she left her husband and married Thomas Barber before Solomon's 1811 death. Another possibility is that the 1811 death for him is inaccurate. Their last child was born in 1784.

Another possibility, put forward by Betty Barber Lusk is that the Abigail who married Thomas Barber was the daughter of Solomon and Abigail; according to several Worldconnect databases, there was such a daughter, b. 5 Dec 1774, but a) she would only have been 17 in 1791-- awfully young to be marrying a 49-year-old-- but possible; b) the Seven Generations book indicates this daughter married an ENOCH SARGENTS, no date in said book, though others say supposedly on 22 July 1813 (but that doesn't make sense; children are born 1797-1815) and that she died in Pittsfield, NH.
