The name in Old English signified a badge. The earliest of the name in America of whom any record is found is John Bagg, who m. Dec. 24, 1657, Springfield, Hannah Burt, who was b. in Springfield Apr. 28, 1641, d. there Aug. 1, 1680, after bearing 10 children. John Bagg d. Sept. 5, 1683, Springfield, and was presumable between 45 and 50 years old at the time of his death. References
