Abel was a lumberman. He owned two sawmills and a grist mill which he operated, and owned several hundred acres of woodland. He was commissioned by the PA governor for service in the War of 1812 in 1814 as a Captain, 3rd Co, 76th Reg’t of the PA Militia, 2nd Brig, 8th Div. He was promoted to Lt. Col 16 Oct 1823. [Marcy]
