It appears that Aaron and his brother, William, moved to CA where they appear on the 1850 census in El Dorado Co, Middle Fork of the American River, p. 481, as Miners. Obviously Aaron and his brother were drawn to the area by the Gold Rush. (The California Gold Rush was started when gold was discovered in the American River at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, El Dorado Co, in 1848. Aaron appears to have later moved to nearby Sacramento, and, according to Zola Hardy, engaged in fruit growing. He apparently never married and he became relatively wealthy. In August of 1878 he was murdered by two acquaintenances of his, Troy Dye and Edward Anderson, who shot him while he was in his orchards after first trying to poison him. They had hopes of somehow acquiring his money or land. Dye and Anderson were convicted of his murder and hanged on May 29, 1879. This information is from articles in the Reno Evening Gazette newspaper, Reno, Nevada (available online on Ancestry.com). The most informative article is from August 17, 1878.
