Notes

From Mary Ann 14 Nov 2009

Sometimes knowing other collateral names helps - here are my notes for Elliotts if you find some. I know you have a lot on your mind but I thought it was interesting that Chester PA pops up and he had Va money. James Elliott was the father of Elizabeth who married Samuel's son, James. I'll look into Dinah Elliott. One way I've followed my Walkers is to watch who lives around them - many of the names in Williamson Co., IL show up back in NC. I think they had a large 'religious' family - members who belonged to the same church and might have married cousins - etc. So, if you see some of these names popping up in land records, you might zero in on 'our' Walkers.

Justice of Peace. Signed Elizabeth Elliott's bond. (or was this her brother who signed?)

There is also a James Elliott, Jr. Found in "Ansearchin' News" Petition to the General Assembly of Tennessee Nov 1 1812 1st copy signed by, Sam'l Walker, James Elliott, Sr.; 2nd copy signed by Robert Sanders, Ezek Odom, Jacob Moake, Thomas Perry (Bill, these surnames all go to Williamson co, IL as well) ; 3rd copy signed by Benj'm Moore, James Walker, Hardy S. Bryan, Alexander Moore, Mathew Walker. (Matthew Walker is Samuel's grandson, Benj'm Moore is his father in law).

RESEARCH: "Elliott 'n' Kin" Vol. 2, No. 3, Pg 33. "...Dinah Elliott who was b. 1766 and d Aug. 21 1848 in Anderson Co., SC. Dinah married William Passmore (FYI Passmore is a common Quaker name) March 17, 1787 in Orange Co., NC. Dinah was the daughter of James Elliott b.c. 1730, d. May 1803 Orange Co., NC. James' will mentioned property he owned on Conocogly Creek in Pennsylvania, on the James River, and on the French Broad River. One researcher believes that James may have been the son of Peter Elliott and Sarah Elliott who lived in Chester Co., PA. Peter died between 1754 and 1758. There is a Conococheaque Creek, an old Indian name, in Franklin Co., PA. The James River is in Virginia. The Scots-Irish from PA did settle this area, Glasgow, VA near the James River before preceding to North Carolina. The French Broad River in Tennessee is east of Knoxville.
