170 Samuel 1795 Gap of Crocketts Cove, Wythe County; west of Burke's Garden in 1763 Hugh Montgomery Sr. patented 106 acres of land in Wythe County. He probably never resided on the land, as he lived and died in Rowan County, NC. This land was devised to his daughter Jean in his will of 1779. At that time Jane was under 21 implying a DOB of no earlier than 1758. It is not clear whether she was married to Samuel at this time, or whether the couple ever lived on the land. In anycase, in 1795 Samuel and Jean are identified as "of Knoxville TN", and sell the property to Jeans brother Hugh Montgomery Jr. These record in Kegley are all variations on this point, mostly related to discussions of families that owned this property in later years.
