SAMUEL HOUSTON' WILL

In the nam of god amen, the ninteenth day of september, in the year of our lord god 1739 I samuel houston of pencelveney[1] in the countey of Chester farmer, being very sick and weak in bodey, thanks be given unto god therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of god that gave it; and for my body, I recommend it to the earth, to be buried in A Christian like and decent manner at the direction of my executors nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of god and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me in this life I give bequeath and dispose of the same in the following manner and form

Imprimis I give and bequeath to Ester my Dearly beloved wife, whom I likewise constitute make and ordain my only and sole executrix of this my last will and testament; all and singular my estate real and personal during her natural life provided that she payes yearly to martha houston my mother three pound pencelviney money in liu or roun of the yearly menteance my father will me to give her during her natural life in likemanner that she clears all the dets I ow and puts all the personal estate to appraisment excepting one chest of drawers her sedeal and whil and her close and after the charges hereby accruing are all closed, that she and the pro?iers gives a true account of all the personal esteat to the oversears afor menshoned and that the one half of the then personal estate be retourned at her deseas to robert houston cristefer houston james houston ane walker margrat linn jnat linn martha linn equally to be devided amoungst them and if cristerfer or james houston deyes befor this become I that the one that survivs may have the other shear and if robert housten deyes that his oldest son have his shear and likwise that the plantion called philips bottom and do both the rights therunto belonging togither with all the improvments theirin theron or in anywaye therunto belonging be retained to Christefer Houston and James Houston free of all charges or incombrences and that the said Christfer and James houston are hereby obleged after their coming to full posesion of the said land in the apace of three years after shall pay to robert houston ane walker margrat linn jnat linn martha linn to each of thos persons named hea//teen pound or their eairs and I herby appoint two oversears hugh linn and samuel thomson to see that the half of the personal to be retourned at the deses of my executor be not and if they see caus to take beal for its being secured and in like maner to preserv the pantion being for it not to be good with water grain alone one in three year each at the three fiels formerly thin wheat and...
