Arkansas River Leaves Channel - Memphis, Tenn, March 1 - River men and railroad officials are puzzled at the freakish course suddenly taken by the Arkansas river which has left a channel traversed for more than 50 years cut through low lands to the south of the Rob Roy bridge used by the cotton belt railway, 14 miles east of Pine Bluff. Captain Edward Nowland, general manager of the Memphis and Arkansas river packet company left last night to consult with Chicago Engineer Lynch of the cotton belt system and unless the problem is solved all steamboat traffice up the Arkansas river will be suspended. The now course taken by the river will not permit traffice above the drawbridge, which means that Pine Bluff will be cut off from the east and Mississippi river.
