The Australian Cooperative Digitisation project 1840-1845, also known as Ferguson 1840-45, is a collaborative project between the University of Sydney Library, the State Library of New South Wales, the National Library of Australia and Monash University Library, supported by ten other institutional and industry groups which commenced in 1996. This project created a unique research infrastructure in Australian studies through the digital conversion of Australian serials and fiction of the seminal period 1840-1845. It provided access to and preservation of material by a process of microfilming, scanning and networking. The first project of its kind in Australia, it introduced international best practice, acted as a technical benchmark, and provided a new level of resource sharing. |
