J. M. LANKFORD Obituary from The Post, Princeton, MO Dec. 14, 1944 J. M. Lankford Dies At Home In Spickard

John Matterson Lankford of Spickard died at his home there Sunday.  Funeral services were held from the Pine Church Tuesday afternoon, being conducted by the Rev. V. F. Walker.  Mr. Lankford was born Nov. 11, 1868, in Kentucky and came to Missouri when a boy.  He spent the remainder of his life in Mercer and Grundy counties.   He was married to Carmels McKay in 1889 and they became the parents of two children, one of whom died in infancy.  In 1893 he was married to Frances Ellen Laws.  They were the parents of eleven children, two of whom died in infancy.  Mrs. Lankford died four years ago.  Mr. Lankford is survived by ten sons and daughters.  Mrs. Noble Vanderpool, Farmersville; Mrs. Nona Fiddler and Mrs. Richard Simpson, Des Moines; Mrs. Raymond Neff and Ervin Lankford, Spickard; Mrs. Russell Ratliff and Ralph Lankford, Trenton; Mrs. Elgin Turner, Cainsville; Pvt. Lester Lankford, Ft Lewis, Wash. And Pvt. Clifford Lankford serving overseas.  He is also survived by two brothers, William and Fountain Lankford, Des Moines and two sisters Mrs. Alice Hufatt, of Des Moines and Mrs. Maude Shanks, St. Louis.  He has eight grandsons serving in the armed forces.
