The 8th Kansas Volunteer Infantry was mustered into the service in August 1861 and fought in fifteen battles (including Perryville, Stones River, andChickamauga) and eight skirmishes during the Civil War. During its service, the regiment traveled nearly 11,000 miles through twelve different states and was the only Kansas infantry regiment to serve beyond Missouri
