Marriage License

"The state of Mississippi, County of Chickasaw, To any Minister of the Gospel, Judge of any Court within the state of Mississippi, Justice of the Peace, or any other Officer authorized to Celebrate Marriage, greeting: You are Hereby Authorized to solemnize the RITES of MATRIMONY between Mr.[handwritten:] W.S. Atkinson and Miss [handwritten:] Maggie M Smith and a certificate whereof you will return hereon within six months from this date. Witness, [handwritten:] H. B. Lacy Clerk of the Probate Court of said County, and the seal thereof affixed at office in Houston, this 29 day of May 1872. [handwritten:] H.B. Lacy, Clerk. [handwritten:]By Binkilt, Deputy Clerk.

BY VIRTUE of the above License, the RITES of MARRIAGE were duly celebrated by me between Mr. [handwritten:] W. S. Atkinson and [handwritten:] Miss Maggie Smith this 29 day of May 1872 [signed:] L. J. Gideon. M. S."

Marriage Bond

"The state of Mississippi, County of Chickasaw, KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we, [handwritten:] W.S. Atkinson and [handwritten:] T J Pulliam, are held and firmly bound unto the State of Mississippi, the penal sum of ['two' is crossed out and above is written:] one hundred dollars, for which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 29 day of May 1872. THE CONDITION of the above obligation is such, That wheareas a marriage is shortly to be had between the above bound [handwritten:] W. S. Atkinson and [handwritten:] Miss Maggie Smith now, if there be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage, then the aboe obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
