Document 1 Affidavit of Advertisement and Searches In the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria. In the Probate Jurisdiction. In the Estate of William Bassett late of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria Engine Driver deceased intestate.

Praecipe to Registrar for Grant of Letters of Administration of the Estate of William Bassett late of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria Engine driver deceased intestate to Martha Bassett of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk aforesaid the Widow of the said deceased. Executed 26/11/88

Document 2 In the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria. In the Probate Jurisdiction. In the Estate of William Bassett late of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria Engine Driver deceased intestate. I, David Duncan of number fifty one William Street in the city of Melbourne in the Colony of Victoria Clerk to Messieurs Wisewould Gibbs and Wisewould of the same place Solicitors make oath and says That the following advertisement appeared in the "Argus" daily Newspaper published in the said City of Melbourne on the eighteenth day of October one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight. "Notice is hereby given that after the expiration of fourteen days from the publication hereof application will be made to the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria in the Probate Jurisdiction that the Letters of Administration of the Estate of William Bassett late of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk in the said Colony Engine Driver deceased intestate may be granted to Martha Bassett of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk aforesaid the widow of the said deceased. Dated this Seventeenth day of October 1888 That since the death of the deceased I have searched and found no will of the above named decease is deposited in Office of the Registrar General of the Colony of Victoria That I have this d searched in the proper office of this honourable court and find that no Caveat is lodged in this matter.

Sworn at Melbourne in the Colony of Victoria this 24th day of November one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight - D Duncan.

Document 3 Affidavit of Justification by Surety In the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria. In the Probate Jurisdiction. In the Estate of William Bassett late of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria Engine Driver deceased intestate.

I, Edward McCormick of Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria Contract do make oath and sa: - That I am possessed of property in the Colony of Victoria to the extent of ninety pounds over and above what will pay all my debts and Liabilities That such property in the said Colony consists of Freehold land situate at Sailors Gully Eaglehawk in the said Colony on which is erected a four-roomed weather board - house of the value of seven hundred and fifty pounds being more than sufficient to cover the said sum of ninety pounds and all my just debts and Liabilities Sworn at Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria this 28th day of October one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight - Edward McCormick

Document 4 Affidavit of Justification by Surety In the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria. In the Probate Jurisdiction. In the Estate of William Bassett late of Sailors Gully Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria Engine Driver deceased intestate. I, Hay Kirkwood of Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria Legal Manager make Oath and say That I am possessed of property in the Colony of Victoria to the extent of ninety pounds over and about what will pay all my just debts an liabilities. That such porperty in the siad Colony consists of a quarter of an acre of Freehold land situate High Street Eaglhawk aforesaid on which is erected a Brick shop and Dwelling house of the value of nine hundred pounds being more than Sufficent to cover the said sum of ninety pounds and all my debts and liabilities. Sworn at Eaglehawk in the Colony of Victoria this 26th day of October one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight - Hay Kirkwood.
