Whereas no relation or creditor of John Shaffer deceased intestate has appeared or is known to reside within the Parish and willing to administer the Estate of the said deceased, on application of David Holsten Esqr of the said Parish it is ordered that he be appointed administrator of the said Estate, after giving security according to Law.

On application of David Holston Esqr admnistrator of the Estate of John Shaffer decd it is ordered that the slaves and personal property belonging to the Estate of the late John Shaffer of the said Parish deceased be sold at public auction, at the house where the said deceased lately resided at the mouth of Sandy Creek the sale to begin on Thursday the eighteenth day of April next, and to continue until the whole of said property be sold. The slaves to be sold on a credit of one, two and three years — the live stock on a credit of one year, all other articles of a greater amount than ten dollars, on a credit of six months, the purchasers giving good and sufficient security, to be approved by the said administrator and all other articles for cash — And that due notice thereof be given according to law.

[Page 9] Sandy Creek 17 Jan 1811 This day personally appeared before me Thomas Lilly one of the Justice of Peace for the parishe of Baton rouge, Wiliam Gefin and declared as folowrs, that on the tenth day of the presane month, the late John Schafort decd call him to his bed and told him that filing and knowing that he was at his last hour of Life, observed to the declaram that he wished that John arrike and John Dorotha Junior Schuld take charge of his afaires and State for the benefit of his hair, after that the Declarant aske him if he was Satisfid with the above to whiche he answerd that he wische also Mrs Jacob Watkins and John Lago to a?te and See to the reasing of his childerans — this being the substance of his wishes the declarant as placed is nam and Seal to it

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we James Penny and William Shaffer of the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, are held and firml bound unto CHARLES TESSIER, Judge of the Court of Probates in and for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, in the sum of five hundred Dollars current money of the United States of America, which we promise to pay to him or his successors in office for the faithful performance of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, or assigns firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, this 27th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty and the forty fourth of the Independence of the United States of America.

THE CONDITION OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATION IS SUCH, That is the above bounden James Penny this day appointed Curator and C____ds of the minor Elizabeth Shaffer does well and truly administer the same, and further make a just and perfect account of all his actings and doings in that capacity, and the same be duly examined and allowed by the Judge of the Court of Probates for the time being, or any other person entitled thereto by law, and also delivers up and pays unto such person or persons respectively, as are legally entitled to the same, all the goods and chattles, rights and credits which may remain in his hands or possession belonging to the said minor, Daughter of the late Wm.
