John W. Henry, son of Joseph and Elvira Henry was born in Williamson County, Illinois, January 2nd, 1847 and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dona Pepple, October 20, 1936. Age 89 years, 9 months, and 18 days.

  He moved with his parents to Jefferson county, when ten years of age, where he spent his entire life with the exception of the last few years lived with his daughter, Mrs. Dona Pepple.
  He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Robertson on January 7th, 1867.  To this union eight children were born five of whom survive.
  He was one of those stalwart men, pioneer residents of the county, who did his part back there in the early days in developing his community and building for the future. He being the last survivor of those men who back in the early days hewed logs and built the Mt. Olive Church (Said to be the only log church remaining in the state.)
  He was a firm believer in God and many were the times he expressed his faith and asserted his readiness and willingness to embark on the journey we all must go.
  He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Mary who has been his lifes companion for nearly 70 years; two brothers, James Henry and Joseph Henry of Bluford; One sister, Sarah Mateer of Little Rock, Ark.; Five surviving children, Alfred Henry of Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. Cora Grider of Argenta, Ill., Mrs. Anna Jones of Allerton, Ill., Mrs. Dona Pepple of this community, frank Henry of Danville, Ill. Three children having preceded him, Edward and Edwin having died in infancy and Oliver Henry. Besides a large number of grandchildren and great grandchldren and other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
