Image Information
On the back of the photograph is written, "Mabel John taken in my apt 1968." Hazel's granddaughter, Michele e-mailed this information to RC about this photograph and Hazel, in general: "I actually was in that apartment for a week in the late 1960's and remember that picture [on wall above TV] well. It is not a relative, just an inexpensive picture that Grandma liked and thought it gave her little place a sense of style. Notice her gold bedspread and those peacocks? In her world they added flare. Later she moved in with Mabel and their shared love of pink bloomed...Yes, Grandma's apartment was a studio. While she loved living in California, it just was not very budget friendly. Her second apartment actually had a Murphy bed that pulled out of the wall...You are also correct about the Royal Doulton ladies. She had two or three that I remember...Grandma also collected lovely china tea cups...We shared a love of afternoon tea and a good book. Unfortunately, I never acquired her love of poetry. Her favorite colors were purple, pink and gold. As she aged, most of her clothing reflected those colors. She liked rag time music as well as classical. Grandma was very much the "shabby chic" grand dame..." File historyLegend: (cur) = this is the current file, (del) = delete
