Help talk:Person pages tutorial

Two things seem to be missing from this help page. How to deal with name prefixes such as 'Van' and what to do if there are two versions of the same person. Gam3 09:17, 28 April 2007 (MDT)

Person pages: Help [27 April 2011]

We are told we can print the Person pages tutorial but I do not see a way to do so, except one page ata time, which is too tine-consuming.--Path90714 11:33, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

You can also export a GEDCOM: click the "Tree" link in the upper right corner of a Person page to add the person and their ancestors and/or descendants to a tree, wait 10-15 minutes for the pages to be added, then click on "Trees" in the "MyRelate" menu, and click on the "Export" link next to the tree you want to export.--Dallan 12:42, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

Person pages tutorial-editing [16 July 2009]

I do not find help information for editing person pages, just for entering information.--Path90714 11:35, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

Click on the "Edit" link in the upper right corner of the page, just like you did for this page.--Dallan 12:42, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

Person pages-how to delete an entry [16 July 2009]

How do I delete an individual from a .gedcom I uploaded?--Path90714 11:36, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

If you are the only contributor, click on the delete link in the other menu. If there are other contributors, type {{Speedy Delete}} on the top line of text box and explain why. --sq 12:16, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

Gallery on person pages [27 June 2010]

How do you put a gallery of images on person pages? The instructions at the Image Tutorial don't work. --Obstinatesnooper 20:32, 27 June 2010 (EDT)

Obstinatesnooper, I clarified the instructions a little bit. On the page where you are adding a gallery - you are using the image URL. You need to use the image title instead.
Example,
Image:Probate of Daniel Sackett 1845 (Troy, Rensselaer, New York) p396.jpg|Probate p.396
Not Image:Probate_of_Daniel_Sackett_1845_(Troy%2C_Rensselaer%2C_New_York)_p396.jpg|100px|Probate p.396
Also, I don't believe the 100px works on galleries - as they are automatically sized. --Jennifer (JBS66) 20:49, 27 June 2010 (EDT)

Person page titles when given name is unknown [27 April 2011]

Person pages tutorial addresses handling unknown surnames. Is there a preferred way to handle unknown given names when the surname is known. Three approaches occur to me: Son, Daughter or Child; Male or Female; or Unknown for all. Personally, I prefer son daughter or child.--Jaques1724 15:33, 27 April 2011 (EDT)

The convention on WeRelate is to use Unknown. If you were to create a new person page, and leave the given name field blank, the system would automatically title your page Unknown Surname (#). If there is an instance where the entire name is unknown, you would title the page Unknown (#) not Unknown Unknown (#). I'll edit this help page to make that more clear. --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:43, 27 April 2011 (EDT)

The description box [12 March 2016]

In "3 Lesson Three: Entering events and facts" there is no mention of the third box in any Event: the description box.

The description box can contain any useful but brief bit of information that is not contained in the date or the place box. For instance, a street address, a church where a baptism, marriage or burial took place, an occupation as given in a census, or a cause of death.

This may be covered in a further lesson in this chapter, but I haven't read that far at the moment.
