Background

The Tapestry Project is designed to provide information about the people who settled along The Great Road from Philadelphia west to the Cumberland Valley, south into the Valley of Virginia, and south into Southwest Virginia, and northwestern North Carolina. Information about the settlers in these areas is being added by surname. Typically, a detailed treatment of persons bearing a given surname in the Old Augusta portions of the tapestry is undertaken, attempting to identify the various lineages bearing the surname. Those lineages are then traced backward to see if they were present in the Old Chester area, and forward to see if they passed down into Southwest Virginia. The following listing identifies the surnames that are intended to be worked on in the near future.
