[add comment] [edit] Common names for places [10 August 2020]I found this family when checking out entries for Newton with Scales which is up in the Fylde area of Lancashire, inland from Blackpool. In Lancashire there are a number of places whose titles can be shortened to Newton. I found William Critchley's baptism in Ancestry which confirmed it occurred in Winwick. Winwick was originally an ancient parish in the West Derby hundred (Liverpool area) which included a number of townships which were made into parishes in the middle of the 19th century. Included in the list of townships was Newton le Willows. I have corrected a couple of details for William, himself, but there may be a number of details for the family in need of another check. --Goldenoldie 18:21, 10 August 2020 (UTC) |
