Family talk:Thomas Gardner and Elizabeth Horne (1)

No evidence appears to support a marriage date of "abt 1665" although "aft 1664" would be a good guess. [15 December 2013]

The above is not exactly true, as careful reading of Frank Gardner's book will show. Three of Thomas' children are named in the division of the estate of widow Elizabeth: including Dorcas Carver. Since no transcript is given, and the author names the three children in the order David, Susanna, and Dorcas, a person could infer the above order might be by sex, then age as might be expected for a list of heirs in a probate document. Dorcas Carver being, according to the author, "probably" the Dorothy who m. Robert Carver in 1688 (found in Salem VRs, 3:193) would be expected to be born about 1668 and if Susanna is older, then 1665 is a very good estimate. Even if Dorcas is oldest, a marriage by 1667 would be about 1665 in my book. After all it never pretended to be anything other than an estimate. In any event, there is no evidence it is wrong, as Anderson only says the date is unknown, which is inherently implied by the idea of an estimate, and before 1679 won't work very well when the children get entered. --Jrich 04:42, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
