Abigail (Hodge) (Gilbert) Danks [28 November 2017]

Abigail Hodge married George Gilbert at Middletown 10 December 1717. George died at Middletown 13 January 1717/18, killed by the falling of a tree. The Hodge genealogy says she "is supposed to have married Jeremiah Leming" in 1722. However, Jeremiah Leming married Abigail Turner at Durham in 1716. Evidence is circumstantial but consistent with Abigail Hodge marrying George Gilbert, then Robert Danks.--jaques1724 08:14, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

The first marriage of Jeremiah Leming was six years before the alleged second marriage, so the two could co-exist. NYGBR appears (snippet view on Google [1]) appears to suggest Jeremiah had both wives. Obviously this is tricky as both women are named Abigail. There are no records suggesting Abigail Gilbert married Jeremiah Leming, and as he already had a wife Abigail, no reason for any genealogy to think his wife Abigail was her, but they do. I think it is incumbent upon modern researchers to figure out why that supposition was made and either disprove it or document it. Any positive "circumstantial evidence" except the name in the marriage record? --Jrich 17:26, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
