Family talk:Joseph Hurlburt and Rebecca Brown (1)

Questionable information [27 April 2016]

Hi

The only source I was able to find (online) for Rebecca's surname was the Ancestral File, which gives the 1670 marriage in Wethersfield. This marriage is not recorded in the Wethersfield VRs in the Barbour Collection, nor does it show up in the Connecticut Church Abstracts (1630-1920). Books and all the journal articles I could find are silent on Rebecca's identity. My guess is that the marriage, along with the identification of Rebecca's surname, is spurious.

If you have a source for Rebecca's surname and the marriage (other than a family tree that ultimately copies from the Ancestral File), please enter it. Otherwise, I will merge Joseph's 2 marriages, indicating that Rebecca's surname is unknown, and add notes about the information in the Ancestral File. Thanks--DataAnalyst 21:52, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

My source is my father's family tree. Unfortunately my father passed away a long time ago. He did his genealogy on paper and by visiting the places and looking at whatever records he could find. He lived in Scituate, MA and traveled around New England (and to England) to find info. All I have is the tree he made, not all the source material. I speculate he had some source (and that it wasn't you online) but I don't know it's veracity. Is there a way to keep the info as unverified (maybe in a note?) since it may provide a useful clue to someone as at least something to look into.--Sparrell 01:37, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I have merged the marriages and left her name as Brown, based on the fact that your father did his own research and may well have discovered a primary record for their marriage. Feel free to update the notes on their family page as you see fit.--DataAnalyst 01:45, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
