Family talk:Jonathan Thurston and Sarah Unknown (3)

Identity of wife [26 June 2011]

I am not sure why Person:Sarah Guild (3) is matched with Jonathan thurston. Of course, there are no sources, or it might be self-evident, but there aren't. Neither did "Samuel Gill" (as he called himself) identify his daughter's married name in his 1684 will, or mention her husband or children. Source:Thurston, Brown. Thurston Genealogies, 1635-1892p. 263, says Jonathan Thurston m. 1678 Sarah ----. This page says married 1678 in Taunton. The marriage is not recorded in Taunton. So no evidence that it is Sarah Guild that was the wife of Jonathan Thurston. Source:Burleigh, Charles. Genealogy and History of the Guild, Guile, and Gile Family, p. 222, says Sarah Guild m. 8 Nov 1682 Peter Pattee. This marriage is recorded in Salisbury (her name Sarah Gill). So some evidence that it was not Sarah Guild. Jonathan Thurston had 15 children and didn't name a single one after either of Sarah Guild's parents, Samuel and Judith. He was from Rhode Island so how did he marry a girl from Haverhill? Peter Pattee had a son named Samuel, and lived in Haverhill where Sarah grew up. It doesn't add any confidence when one discovers that the death date on this page for Sarah, shown as wife of Jonathan Thurston, happens to be exactly the same date that is recorded in Haverhill for the death of Peter Pattee. All circumstantial evidence seems to suggest Sarah Guild married Peter Pattee, not Jonathan Thurston. I am removing Sarah Guild from this page and matching her with Peter Pattee. --Jrich 18:46, 26 June 2011 (EDT)

Apparently the new Guile-Gile-Guiles Genealogy by John Charles Gile shows that Peter Pattee m. Sarah Gill, d/o John Gill of Salisbury, not d/o Samuel Gile of Haverhill as John's will [Essex Probate 10934] names daughter Sarah Pattee. Books.google.com gives only snippet access, but doesn't seem to find any mention of Jonathan Thurston, so still removing Sarah from this marriage. --Jrich 19:15, 26 June 2011 (EDT)
