Family talk:John Cobb and Jane Godfrey (1)

Wrong John Cobb [15 June 2013]

The related wedding of Jane Woodward to this John Cobb, taking place in Taunton, clearly indicates this is John Cobb of Taunton who is a different John Cobb than the son of Henry Cobb who m. Martha Nelson. Further as the marriages to Jane Godfrey and Jane Woodward both occur on 13 Jun 1676, these appear to represent maiden and married names of a widow, or some similar confusion, and probably should be merged by a researcher familiar with John Cobb of Taunton. --Jrich 14:09, 15 February 2009 (EST)

See NEHGR, Vol. 52, p. 84. "John Cobb of Taunton, and John Cobb of Plymouth, were entirely distinct persons. John Cobb of Plymouth descended from Henry Cobb; married Martha Nelson 1658, and had: John, Samuel, Elizabeth, Israel, Patience, Ebenezer, Elisha and James." John Cobb of Taunton m. (1) Martha ---, no children, m. (2) Jane (Godfrey) Woodward and had John, Morgan and Samuel and step-children Elizabeth and Israel Woodward. --Jrich 10:34, 15 June 2013 (EDT)
