I don't see any reason why this couple couldn't be the same as Jeremiah Marcellus Fain and Sarah Eleanore Stalnaker. The directory is simply identifying who owns or lives at various places. The same couple could easily have lived and worked at a farm (Williams, Stewart Addition) and owned a nearby house (257 E 2d Ave), particularly if they were in transition from farming to town living. By 1930, Jeremiah Marcellus and Sarah Eleanore were each listed in the households of different children, suggesting an inability to maintain a home of their own due to Sarah Eleanore's failing health (she died in 1931). In 1923, they may have been starting the transition off the farm. The difference in how their names are listed would simply reflect how they identified themselves at the time of acquiring/renting the properties. Sarah Eleanore was known to use the name Nora (death certificate) and also the name Elona (1930 census).

The census records do not seem to support the idea that there were 2 couples with such similar names.

I plan to merge this family with Family:Jeremiah Fain and Nora Stahlnecker (1). Let me know if you have any additional evidence that they were separate people. Thanks.--DataAnalyst 15:01, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
