  2. Incomplete records, no probate for the father and moving among towns has raised questions about some of the children that appear to belong in this family. See Keziah's page for conflict between her and Abigail, and see Achsah's page for conflict between her and a record for "Mary". Both of these conflicts arise because of the records of this family found in the Berlin records. Not only the names are different, but the birth dates are different, but still close enough to be in conflict with the alternative information. The traditional records (Keziah and Achsah) are supported by marriage records of young women of those names, but the Berlin alternatives (Abigail and Mary) have no such confirmation.

This family is covered by Source:Stearns, Ezra S. History of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, p. 852, but Stearns made no attempt to recover records from other places than Ashburnham. Source:Pollard, Maurice J. History of the Pollard Family of America, Vol. 2, p. 209-210, covers this family, but the information appears to be copied from Stearns, from its wording, and as it is also lacking any knowledge outside of Ashburnham records.

From deeds, it appears the family resided in Bolton until about 1777 when land "where I now live" was sold and other land bought in Ashburnham, but births disappear from Bolton even earlier, 1771, and being to appear in Ashburnham about this same time. Then land in Berlin is bought in 1788 and William is "of Berlin" in 1791. So Berlin appears to be the last residence in the sequence, but as they don't contain any of the younger children born in Ashburnham, they appear to actually be inherited from Bolton (Berlin formed as a district in 1784, incorporated 1812). This means the Berlin records are copied, thus subject to extra transcription errors. Inspection of the Bolton records that presumably were the source for these copies in Berlin appears to show that records of two children, Abigail and Mary, belonging to William and Hannah Sawyer, have been attributed by the Berlin copy to William and Hannah Pollard.

On p. 83 of the Bolton records: "Born Abigail Daughter to William Sawyer Ju'r & Hannah his wife may ye 5th 1765".

On p. 104 of the Bolton records: "Born Mary Daughter to William Sawyer Ju'r and Hannah his wife February ye 8th 1771".

These names and birthdates end up in both the Pollard and Sawyer family in the Berlin copy of records: Pollard p. 111, Sawyer p. 125. But clearly they do not belong in the Pollard family.
