Family story told by Flossie to Bearsong: One wintery morning William and the other local men all packed up lunch and guns and went bear hunting. They wanted some fresh meat and apparently were quite cocky about going after it. While they were gone, the bear they were after came into the "front yard area" of the house. Flossie took a shotgun and killed it. The men came home, empty-handed, only to find a half-skinned bear and Flossie with her eldest daughter hard at work. Flossie was 4'8" and weighed about 90 lbs. She never let Will forget it, much to his delight. Theirs was a marriage made in heaven.

Many family documents, letters, photos and sundry on file.
