The 1920 U.S. Census shows William and Nettie living in Big Rapids (Ward 3), Mecosta County, Michigan with a daughter, Bertha, age 5.

William and Nettie were living in Canon Township, Kent County, Michigan when the 1930 U.S. Census was taken. At this time, three children also resided with them. They were: Clara (9), Harold F. (6), and Marjorie (11/12). This indicates that Bertha may have died; she would have been 15 years in 1930.

In 1940, the U.S. Census shows that William was a laborer with the WPA and Nettie was working as a chambermaid at a hotel. They were living in Big Rapids, Mecosta County, Michigan, along with their daughter Marjorie.
