  3.   There is some question as to the parents of Mary, but mostly because of bad assumptions made in the literature. William Holloway is called the brother in law of Cornet Simeon Howard of Northboro in 1756 when they co-own "the Samuel Baker tan-yard in Westborough" (see Source:Kent, Josiah Coleman. Northborough History, p. 168).

Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Forbes and Forbush Genealogy, p. 21, has apparently made another mistake with the Holloway family (e.g., see Family:Jonathan Forbush and Hannah Holloway (1)). It shows the Mary who m. Lt. William Holloway as a daughter of Simeon Howard and Rebecca Furbush who were married in 1720, the same year Mary herself was married?! Clearly this is incorrect. This source says Cornet Simeon Howard is the son of this Simeon and Rebecca (Furbush) Howard, born in 1736, and this birth is indeed recorded in Marlborough VRs, but such a person would be too young to own land in 1756.

The birth in Concord of Mary that matches her age at death clearly indicates her parents as Simeon Hayward and Elizabeth [the Danforth Genealogy identifies the mother Elizabeth as the daughter of Jonathan Danforth and Elizabeth Poulter ]. This same family has a son Simeon born 1693 who is probably the Simeon who married 1720 Rebecca Forbush. Such a Simeon would actually be William Holloway's brother-in-law, and old enough to own land in 1756, so this is the Simeon that is probably "Cornet".

Pierce is not alone in presenting improbable scenarios involving this family. The Danforth Genealogy cited above shows a daughter Mary belonging to Simeon Hayward and Elizabeth Danforth (i.e., the Mary who is presented on this page as the wife of William Holloway), but this source shows no husband for her. However, this Mary is shown to have a brother Simeon Hayword, b. 1693, who is said to have married in 1705 Rebecca Hartwell [i.e., apparently at the age of 12(?!?)]. The Simeon that married Rebecca Hartwell was probably the son of Joseph Hayward and his second wife Elizabeth (Treadway) Hapgood (see Source:Hapgood, Warren. Hapgood Family : Descendants of Shadrach, 1656-1898) b. in Concord about 1683, while the Simeon that is brother to Mary, as suggested above, married 1720 Rebecca Furbush.
