William Connolly first appears in the Newark City Directory for 1852- 1853, living at 32 Union. In 1853-54 he is listed as a grocer at 50 Union with home at 32 Union. In 1854-55, Catharine Connelly is listed as widow of William, grocer, 50 Union. She had apparently moved out of 32 Union, since listed with her at 50 Union are Dennis, “clerk”, and William P., “patent leather”. In the 1855-56 directory, Catharine is listed at 83 Congress with William P. In the 1891 Newark directory, there is a Mrs. William Connolly, grocer, at 5 Maine.
