  1. Warwick (Massachusetts). Town Clerk. Vital records, 1739-1900
    Vol. 1, p. 169.

William Bancroft Jr of Dana entered his intentions of Marriage with Sarah Conant of Warwick } Nov. 26th 1807.

  2. William Bancroft Jr. of Dana may be found in deeds but almost no concrete genealogical information is known. Worcester Deeds Vol. 169, p. 504 has two deeds, one where he purchases in 1808 33 acres in Petersham from George Bosworth, and another in 1808 where he purchases of [presumably his parents] William and Mary Bancroft of Dana 40.5 acres in Dana. Vol. 223, p. 24, he with wife Sally sells in 1820 to several buyers the land he bought from George Bosworth.

It appears that the parents are William Bancroft b. Reading 1743 and Mary Daniels (speculative). They had 2 children recorded in Uxbridge, and one in Petersham, with nearly 20 years inbetween where no records are found. The father appears to have died 18 Aug 1834 leaving 4 grown children: Mary Wight or Wright, Sarah Morton, William Bancroft and Chloe Bancroft (Worcester Probate file 3269). The Dana Vital Records contain virtually nothing on the families of either William Sr. or William Jr., except there is a marriage record of William Jr. to Sally Briggs in 1814, which would imply his first wife Sally Conant had died by then (but probably after 1810 when she is named in her father's will).

There is also a William Bancroft of Auburn whose sister's intentions are listed on the same page of the records, of about the right age, s/o William and Mary (Bancroft) Bancroft. However, as his father's will directs brother Thomas to take care of him, he probably never married.
