Possibly the father of Heman and Burgess Calkins was a son or grand-son of David and Priscilla (Burgess) Calkins. However it is evident that the various online reconstructions of the issue of David and Priscilla Calkins contain problematic records.

Another possibility is that Burgess Calkins was a brother or cousin of Ephraim Calkins. In the 1840 census the families of Burgess and Ephraim Calkins are recorded next to each other. In the 1860 census the families of Burgess Calkins and Ephraim's son Volney Calkins are recorded near each other.

Catharine Calkins shown as an original land owner in Oxford Township, Oakland MI, was possibly the mother of Heman and Burgess Calkins. Possibly she was their sister. Possibly she was the young daughter of Bergess and Lucinda (Wilson) Calkins.
