There is a disconnect here. Thomas Merriam died 1 Apr 1811. John Miles, Ruth Atwater's first husband, died in 1818. It may be that the third Mrs. Merriam was not the widow of John Miles, but another woman with the same baptismal name who also was born c. 1740. The widow of Thomas Merriam, whoever she was, died 6 Apr 1727 at Meriden.
