↑ The author of Record of the Descendants of Robert Dawson of East Haven, 1874, gives Thomas a prior wife, Mehitabel _____, going on to say, "The name occurs only in the record of deaths: '1723. Oct. 25, Mehitabel, w. of Thomas Dawson.'─ E. H. R. [East Haven Register], p. 165." Jacobus was writing a half-century later and was undoubtedly familiar with the Dawson Genealogy. The general thoroughness of his body of work suggests that we accept his summary rather than the earlier one. Jacobus notes, by the way, that there was another Thomas Dawson in New Haven during the same general time frame. That man's son married in 1718/9 and was father of five children born between 1720 and 1735.
