  3. Source:Ward, Andrew Henshaw. History of the Town of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, p. 287, says "His [Nathan's] wid., Martha, was the second wife of Simon Goddard, Esq. of Phillipston", and Simon did marry a Patty Goddard "of Framingham" in 1803 and is of an appropriate age. But the probate of Nathan mentions the sale of the reversion of the widow's dower being ordered by the court in 1797, which typically would indicate the widow had died (no deed has been identified to show that it was quitclaimed to the estate - another possible cause for such a sale.) No conclusive evidence identifying which Patty Goddard it is that Simon Goddard married has yet been located beyond this assertion which Ward does not justify.
