I am not sure if the charges placed against Silas are true. There are a few hints that stand out that make me wonder about the alligations.

1. Silas was married to Nancy Terry for 20 yrs till her death.Cause of death not known at this point. Even so that is a long time to suffer abuse.

2. Silas was married to Emma for 15 yrs. Again a pretty long marraige ending in the death of the spouse.

3. Ada sued for divorce from her first husband, Frank E. Guello. for neglect and abandonment of their children. If the newspapers are correct it was a long drawn out ordeal, even with an arrest of Frank.

4. Ada married again, I haven't found any mention of this marriage desolving.

5. Later on in the Directories of the area and in society news as such we find her always stating that she is the Widow of Frank Guello. I find Frank with another family during this period.

Not sure what to make of this but will continue to look for answers and get the rest of the news articles transcribed and posted. --Julie 15:46, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

    WEDDED 4 MONTHS
    BUT NOT BLISSFULLY

    Mrs. Silas J. McCartney
    Sues for Divorce

Four months of wedded bliss was
sufficient for Ada L. McCartney and
from the petition filed in common
    pleas court Thursday morning
again her husband, Silas J. McCart-
ney, it seems that the bliss was not
    very intense. They were married
June 9, 1900 [typo ?] and not long after he
began beating her and threatening to
    kill her.

They lived in Barberton. She said
in her petition that she feared him
and asked the court to restrain him
    from interfering with her. She
also asked for a divorce and alimony.
