  1. The estimated marriage date of after 1728 is based on the death of Lydia's first husband in 1728. The fact of the marriage seems clear from the gravestone as recorded in Marlborough Burial Inscriptions, p. 137: "Here is interred ye Remains of Mrs Lydia Stow wife of Mr Samuel Stow Daught'r of James Minott Esq'r & Mrs Rebecah his wife who departed this Life February ye 14th A.D. 1742/3 in ye 56th year of her age", tying together her marriage and her parents. One would assume that the husband is Person:Samuel Stow (3), b. 1680, d. 1768, since he is close in age, and lived in Marlborough where Lydia was buried. However, History of Marlboro, p. 451, says "Samuel Stow m. Dec. 19, 1704, Sarah Snow. She d. Feb. 20, 1762; he d. Feb. 13, 1768, aged 88. They lived together as husband and wife 58 years." This is repeated nearly verbatim by many sources. Taken at face value, this would rule out this Samuel Stow as Lydia's husband, but no death record is found for Sarah in Marlborough VRs and we don't know what evidence led Hudson to his assertion about Sarah's death and length of marriage. Did Sarah d. by 1728 (the last child born to Samuel and Sarah is on 19 Mar 1721/22), did Samuel m. Lydia soon after, she dying 1743, and Samuel married another lady named Sarah, confusing Hudson into thinking he had one, continuous marriage? The only facts that are actually known is that Samuel Stow m. "Dec. 19, 1704-5" Sarah Snow (whoever she was) and that Lydia died as the wife of Samuel Stow in 1742/3.
