Source:Vinton, John Adams. Richardson Memorial, p. 205, says the Samuel Kendall that married Prudence Richardson was the s/o Thomas and Ruth Kendall, b. 29 Oct 1682. Other sources, such as Source:Crane, Ellery B. Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County, Massachusetts, p. 1:541, says it is Samuel Kendall, s/o Samuell and Rebecca Kendall, b. 13 Aug 1684. Their first child, Samuel, is no help, since he could be named after Samuel and not convey any information about Samuel's father, and the third child Stephen is clearly named after Prudence's father. However, the second child, Rebecca, suggests the correct answer is the second one: Samuel Kendall, s/o Samuel and Rebecca Kendall.

Oddly enough, Samuel is listed as son of Samuel in Vinton's Vinton Memorial published some years earlier than the Richardson Memorial. Even in the Richardson Memorial, Vinton refers the reader to Sewall's History of Woburn for more information on the Kendall family, and that source shows this Samuel to be a son of Samuel as well. The other Samuel, son of Thomas, m. (1) Elizabeth Pierce, m. (2) Mehitable Parker.
