Family:Robert Austin and Unknown Unknown (2)

There is very little information on Robert Austin, all of information comes from John Osborne Austin The Genealogy Dictionary of Rhode Island. John gives four generations of this family with a note that there has been nothing found directly tying them together. He gives the following reason for put them together as a family, “The name of Robert was revived in two instances in the third generation”.

Testing by the Austin-Austen DNA Project has shown that three of the four sons listed by John O. Austin have the same DNA, the last son John has not been tested as of 20 Nov 2007. Link: http://www.austins.org/cgi-bin/DNA.asp

He resided at "Kings Town," RI. On 15 Sep 1661, his name appears on a list of 65 persons (residents of Newport, Portsmouth and Kings Town mostly) who were to have lots at the new settlement of Misquamicut (Westerly). The lots measured 12 X 80 rods and every man was to pay 7 Ð or forfeit his right. Lot number 12 fell to Robert, but he never made settlement there so far as is known, and comparatively few of those who drew lots, ever went to Westerly.

Robert's name does not appear on the 6 Sep 1687 tax list of Kings Town, thus the death date of before 1687.

Jeremiah Austin b. say 1662 m. Elizabeth

Edward Austin b. say 1664 m. ____ Cromb

Joseph Austin b. say 1668 m. Mary

John Austin b. say 1672 m. ?

I'm sure there were other children, daughters and may be other sons who's names have not been found.
