    Paul Frank Starkey, 85, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Golden Living Center at Lakeview. Paul was born Sept. 20, 1926, at Bartlett to Clarence and Catherine (Cameron) Starkey.

    Survivors are: daughters, Virginia Pocwierz of Columbus, Noreen Church of Council Bluffs and Bonnie Grantski of Beaver Crossing; sons, Thomas Starkey, Doug Starkey, both of Columbus, Donald Starkey, Gary Starkey, both of Grand Island and Michael Starkey of Schuyler; and two brothers, Warren Starkey of Seattle and Dean Starkey of Washington 30 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

    He is welcomed into heaven by his wife, Carol, his parents and brothers, Dean, Harold, Harry, Carl and Keith.

    Paul was raised on the family farm near Bartlett, the 6th of seven sons. He attended country school west of Bartlett and at Spalding. Paul was united in marriage to Carol Nerly on Dec. 23, 1944, in St. Paul. They lived in Albion, Columbus and Grand Island. Paul worked in a sawmill and a candy factory in Tacoma, Wash., during his early years. He also farmed for 28 years in the Albion area, running hog units.

    Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger. He also enjoyed horse shoes, playing pool, cards and family ball games. Paul had a great sense of humor and a smile for everyone he met.
