John Gurnell of Dorchester aforesaid, tanner, guardian to Mary Wales, spinster. John Wales of Dorchester aforesaid, yeoman, guardian to Samuel Wales, and to and with the consent of Thomas Clarke, late of Plymouth in New England aforesaid, guardian to Jonathan Wales, and also to and with the free & voluntary consent of Mary Wales, Samuel Wales and Jonathan Wales aforesaid, the sons & daughter of Nathaniel Wales of Boston in the aforesaid county, shipwright.' Sold land in Boston which had in 1658 been sold 'by Thomas Ruck of Boston aforesaid unto the said Nathaniel Wales' [SLR 13:371-73]; on 9 October 1717, 'the heirs or assigns of … Isabel Wales deceased' were among the heirs of 'Humphrey Atherton, heretofore of Dorchester, in (he county of Suffolk, gent., deceased.' who agreed to a settlement of Atherton's estate [SPR 20:63-65])."
