Children's death certificates give Emily's name as "Emily Snipes", which is the maiden name of their step-mother Martha. Ancestry conflates this into one woman, Martha Emily Snipes b. 1841. But there is an 1865 NC marriage record for the second marriage and the woman are listed as 15 years different in age on the census.
