Josiah Gates [sic] and Elizabeth Chadwick both of Weston were married at Sudbury by Ephraim Curtis J.P. Sept. 7, 1741.
[Note: Josiah Gates is listed "of Weston" here, but I find no other mentioned of a Josiah Gates in this set of VR.]
- ↑ The Church record, p. 429 of Weston VRs show that "Josiah & Elisabeth Gale own'd ye Coven't on 14 May 1741, 4 months before the recorded marriage date. The first child is born May 1741 and the second in 1742/43 so it seems like this date was misrecorded and should be 1740 (or earlier). Sudbury Records p. 182 shows the original. Some confusion is caused due to ambiguity about which date goes with the marriage, but it is "Sept'r ye 7: 1741". It is also indexed by familysearch.org as 16 Mar 1741[/42] but that date appears to belong to the next marriage. The alphabetized town copy p. 197 is simply a copy or the original, using the 7 Sep 1741 date. The date of intentions might be useful but has not been located online.
