  2.   Source:Edson, Carroll Andrew. Edson Family History and Genealogy : Descendants of Samuel Edson of Salem and Bridgewater, Mass, p. 57, identifies the Josiah Edson who married Abigail Dean in 1755 as Capt. Josiah Edson, son of Joseph Edson and Experience Holbrook, b. 1682, d. 1762. Source:Mitchell, Nahum. History of the Early Settlement of Bridgewater, in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, p. 154, mistakenly identifies him as his son Col. Josiah Edson, b. 1709, d. 1776. While the marriage record says Capt. Josiah, Abigail's death record says Col. Josiah, leading to some confusion. Ignoring the fact that there are many errors in the History of Bridgewater, there are several factors that suggest the Edson Genealogy is correct.
    1. The Edson Genealogy says Col. Josiah's widow was named Hannah.
    2. Abigail was born in the 1690's and much more likely to marry a man b. 1682 (about the same age as her first husband) than one b. 1709 (about 10-15 years younger).
    3. Capt. Josiah's first wife died in 1754 so it is likely he would be remarrying in 1755.
